Description In the late nineteenth century, hundreds of Czechs came to Bulgaria; the work they did is still appreciated today. Few are wellknown and dozens stand in their shadows, whereas most have been completely forgotten. The main goal of this paper is, on the basis of studying Catholic birth, wedding, and death registers from 1878 until 1889, to present the social structure of the Czechs who settled in Sofia, the capital of the Principality of Bulgaria. This paper complements preserved memoirs recalling the beginning the Czech community in Sofia.
