Description The publication investigates and analyses the quality of outdoor digital interpretation of the natural heritage in the Czech Republic. The first part provides a concise introduction to the field of interpretation and quality evaluation. The second part presents the on-going discussions about the impact of digital media on people’ experience in nature. It briefly reviews the relativistic and romantic approaches to this issue and it anchors the study in the pragmatic discourse. The third part describes how digital technologies are used in natural and cultural heritage interpretation. In particular, it discusses the potential of augmented reality and the question of the quality and effectiveness of digital interpretation. The research part offers an overview of digital natural heritage interpretationin the Czech Republic. It presents in detail three selected examples: the selfguided trails Svatojansky okruh and Po stopach Karoliny Svetle, and the learning point Kozakov AR. It analyzes the qualitative data acquired from an expert focus group and from the visitors to these sites regarding the meaning and quality of digital interpretation. Based on this qualitative research and a comprehensive literature review, the work provides an instrument for evaluation of the quality of digital interpretation, and it demonstrates the use of this instrument by applying it on an evaluation of the selected programs. In the concluding part, the text discusses the possibilities and meaning of further development of digital interpretation of the natural heritage in the Czech Republic and it outlines several suggestions for increasing its effectiveness in strengthening the relationship between the visitors to the interpreted sites and the natural heritage.
