Description | Conditions on conditionals 19. Mezinárodní setkání Mladých lingvistů, Presentation The traditional Czech grammars have provided a descriptional lists of Czech clauses. These clauses include (among others) so called an adverbial dependent (or a subordinate) clause expressing a condition, also known as a conditional clause. The defining conjunctions related to these clauses are když/kdyby (if), -li (-if as a suffix), jestli(že) (if). In this review I am going to look at an overview of Czech conditional constructions, based on the grammatical framework of Nanosyntax. I first look at the possible options the Czech language has for expressing conditions. Specifically, I will look at the possible syntactic structures of the conditional sentences. Added to that I also want to show the options of tense-specification in both the conditional dependent clause as well as the main clause and the possibilities of their combinations as well as the meaning differences that choice provides. |
