Description Bohemund military operations on the territory of the Byzantine Balkans in 1082-1083 represent a less-known part of the Byzantino-Norman war which was taking place in years 1081-1085. This particular lack of knowledge is partially due to the fact that one of the main actors of the conflict, the duke of Apulia and Calabria and leader of the south Italian Normans - Robert Guiscard - was not present in the theatre of military operations. So the attention of the chroniclers from Mezzogiorno was turned away. Similarly, the main Byzantine source for this war - Anna Komnena - does not describe this phase of the conflict in such a vivid details, as she was doing in case of the initial phase of this war. Therefore in this article we will strive to provide a detailed account and a realistic reconstruction of all the military operations undertaken by both belligerents during this period, which are supported by meagre chronological data found in various written sources.
