Description | This presentation introduced interiors decorated in the Chinese style, from the 18th and early 19th centuries, which are preserved in Bohemia and Moravia. It focused on various kinds of “Chinese” wall-decorations produced locally, skipping Chinese wall-papers. It seems that at the early stage, Chinese inspiration came from the French court design, and led to many misinterpretations. Later, however, large scale panoramatic views became fashionable, incl. oriental landscape with exotic architecture, e.g. wall paintings at chateau Troja, Prague. The transition from the playful style to veritable depictions is still not fully understood. |
