| Description | This lecture looks at the process behind the origin of identifying people in the Habsburg monarchy. The process ran along two parallel tracks: the assignment of people to specific territories, i.e. ascertaining the social order on the one hand and capturing the mass of the population on the other in order to estimate the state’s economic strength. |
