Description | The paper offers a contrastive analysis of the English verb "walk" and its nearest Czech equivalents, namely, the verbs "jít" and "kráčet". "Walk" and "kráčet" are high in manner saliency. In "jít", by contrast, reference to manner is backgrounded; movement is construed as a primarily translocational process. |
