Description | “Young Scholar’s Conference in Brno” is an annual event jointly organized by the Center for Chinese Studies of Masaryk University (Czech Republic), Soochow University (Taiwan) and the Taiwanese Student Association in the Czech Republic. The aim of the event is to promote academic and cultural interaction between young scholars from the Mandarin-speaking world and Central Europe. The inaugural conference was hosted by the Center for Chinese Studies of Masaryk University on 29-30 March, 2017, in the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. The second conference will take place 25-26 March, 2018 (Sunday-Monday) also in the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. We are pleased to have the following experts as the plenary speakers of the conference: - Assoc. Prof. Lucie Olivová, MA, Ph.D., DSc. (Masaryk University) - Prof. C. S. Stone Shih, Ph.D. (Soochow University) Students are invited to give a 15-minute presentation proposal in the field of their own expertise, including, but not limited to the following areas. This year, the conference bears a theme of “Identity Formation and Modernity”, with a special focus on Mandarin-speaking regions or Central Europe. We particularly welcome submissions that deal with the following issues: - Identity formation, - Interaction between language, culture and society, - Art, history and literature, - Religious and philosophical studies, - Social and political studies, - Formation of modernity. Presentations should be given in the presenter’s second language (i.e. if you are a student from Taiwan/China, please use English, whereas a student from the Czech/Slovak Republic will use Mandarin). |
