Description The foundation for working with the concept of ultramontanism is based on a multi-perspective analysis of the theme which is divided into five central parts focusing on: a) the papal curia/Rome’s perspective of ecclesiastical and political developments in the Czech lands and the status of the local church and its loyalty to the Pope and his office; b) the relationship towards the Roman Church and the papacy in a Czech-speaking environment, i.e. in the church itself and the surrounding conservative milieu, and in detail concerning the liberal and socialist milieu; c) the relationship towards the Roman Church and the papacy in the German- -speaking environment; d)a detailed, specific picture of the Pope, papacy and the Roman Church in a Czech non-Catholic environment; e) a comparison of this issue using examples from Central European countries, i.e. Germany (including the development of German states after the Napoleonic wars), Poland and its partitioned territories, Slovenia, and the First Austrian Republic.
