Description Empirical research of generativity focuses rather on its relation to positively defined characteristics. However, its theoretical framework, as well as limited research focusing on its relationship with less desirable variables, point to their significant association. Therefore, the aim of our research was to explore the relationship between generativity and the three dark triad traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. The sample consisted of 294 adults aged 25 to 65 (m = 44.6 years, 174 women) who completed questionnaires regarding generative concern (LGS), stagnation (BSS), and dark triad (SD3). Generativity positively correlated with narcissism and negatively with Machiavellianism; in stagnation, significant positive relationships with Machiavellianism and psychopathy were found. Since men and women differed in some of the examined variables (i.e. generativity, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy), we looked into whether the relationships between the variables were different. The relationships corresponded with the overall results in women; in male subsample generativity did not show negative relationship with Machiavellianism, but we found positive correlation with psychopathy.
