Citation
Description The focus of the presentation is a comparative study of discursive means of masculinity construction in American and Czech YouTube vlogs. Two types of masculine identities - hegemonic and inclusive masculinities - are analyzed in terms of two-level indexicality realized by means of positioning of self and others in the context of YouTube vlogs. The author outlines the most salient strategies of performing the two types of masculinities and shows that the extent and means of constructing these gender identities by Czech and American YouTubers diverge due to sociocultural differences, whereas at the same time, Czech YouTube vloggers tend to employ emerging trends promoted by highly popular American micro-celebrities.
