Description | Theories of Prague school on theatre are developed mainly on material of dramatic theatre (the short chapter on opera in Veltruský’s An Approach to the Semiotics of Theatre, 2012, is an exception), and as such opera is still a challenge in the field of theory and performance analysis. In this paper I will provide insight into Kaia Sarriaho’s production Love from afar (2017, directed by Jiří Heřman in Janáček opera, Brno) trying to describe structural features of the opera score and actual production. I will use concepts derived mainly from Honzl (mobility of theatre sign) and Veltruský (relation of man and object, role of sound features in theatre production) and try to see how far these concepts should be transformed to become an analytical tool for interpreting contemporary opera production. |
