Description This book focuses on the development of the street in Brno named Křenová, the main thoroughfare leading out of Brno towards the east. It witnessed a number of historical events: emperors and kings rode on it, armies marched on it, it was used as the road to the Austerlitz battlefield. The aim of the work is to present a description of the development of an industrial suburb and place it in the context of the development of the city from the beginnings of manufactory enterprises and the introduction of Enlightenment administrative reforms (approximately at the turn of the 1770s and 1780s) to the beginning of 20th century. In the area of Křenová, the original medieval settlement clashed with the newly constructed housing development of the industrialization in the course of the 19th century. The text describes changes in the structure of a suburban built-up area, its functions, the role of the land configuration of the space, the attempts to introduce territory regulation, the context of involving the space in the process of municipal infrastructure construction, and its position in the agglomeration of Brno. The gradual development and formation of the street was reconstructed by means of a combination of written, cartographic, topographic, statistical, and pictorial sources.
