Description The article „The possibilities and Ways of Using Czech Literature in Teaching Czech as a Foreign Language“ draws attention to the utility in literary fiction in foreign language education. It also presents the arguments of taking advantage of Czech language in education process, strategies of this specific type of reading foreign (Czech) literary texts and the criteria which a potential literary text should meet. Moreover, the paper provides the possible methods of usage Czech fiction in education process, advice how to involve all students in it and what pre-reading and post-reading activities could be applied. Regarding to the specific topic of teaching Czech as a foreign language at faculties of medicine, the book „Světoví Češi: příběhy osobností, které proslavily naši zem“ by J. Černý was chosen. The publication collects a short stories about Czech famous people, some of which are scientists and doctors such as J. E. Purkyně, J. Jánský, O. Wichterle, J. Skála, J. G. Mendel or A. Holý. Based on these young adult popular science texts, it is able to demonstrate potential strategies to read the literary text in a lesson. In the end, not only does the article offer a variety of tasks which can lead to an improvement in students‘ communication skills, but also points at the text‘s potential to develop another students‘ abilities.
