Description The chapter reflects on the traditional theoretical framework of Prague functional structuralism approach to language and compares it with the recent movement of "Nihongo kyóiku bunpó" or 'didactic grammar of Japanese'. The analysis of the common points suggests, that the ideas of Prague school's structuralism are fully functional in the present needs of a theory of (Japanese) language for a JFL teaching needs.
