Description | The ongoing project of a book-length narratological commentary on Digenis Akritis was introduced and three draft lemmata were presented: each relating to a different narrative level: the text, the story (the content of the text), and the fabula (the series of logically and chronologically related events). I chose an extract from the 6th book of the G manuscript, a variation on a widespread motif in medieval epics: dragon slaying (the fabula level). From the discourse level, the issue of signal words was discussed, whereas from the text level I focused on the use of metanarrative comments. |
