Description | This lecture seeks to investigate the relationships between students' argumentation during whole class discussion and their engagement. The research we report here was carried out on 639 ninth-grade students at Czech lower secondary schools. Observations took place in language arts lessons; talk time and the number of utterances with argumentation were recorded for each student. At the same time, achievement was measured using a standardized reading literacy test. Also, student engagement was assessed using student self-reports. |
