Description | Titus Maccius Plautus, Curculio or Darmojed (283 pages), the book contains an extensive introduction (119 pages) dedicated to ancient roman theater performances and to palliata as such; furthermore it offers an analysis of the play Curculio, regarding all important aspects of the play such as the historical context, analysis of the Plautine language, humour and stylistics, a detailed description of metrical aspects and cantica, and postantique reception; furthermore the book provides Latin text of Curculio, modern Czech translation and detailed commentary on the Latin text and its translation (140 pages). Titus Maccius Plautus is one of the most beloved and most intriguing ancient comediographers, who has amused his readers and audiences for over 2.000 years. His style was in his time as well remarkable for his humor and exuberance, as it is still nowadays. The aim of the first Czech translation of the play is to offer to the readers the Plautine text in a modern comprehensible Czech language and to maintain his specific humour, puns as well as all the performative qualities of the original. |
