Description This book provides a comprehensive overview of Czech politics, past and present. The authors not only cover the main political developments of the past two centuries, they also situate the current political system in the context of communist and pre-communist legacies. The chapters represent the work of political scientists and so the emphasis is on conceptual and causal analysis. While the book does attempt to describe the basic who, what, where, and when of Czech politics over the last two centuries, it is not a history per se. Rather its focus is on conceptual understanding – for example, of regime types, party systems, and institutions – and causality – the main forces behind the course of political events in the Czech lands and the consequences of these events.
