Description In this paper, the essayistic work of Lukas Bärfuss is examined on the basis of two essay collections Stil und Moral [Style and Morals] (2015) and Krieg und Liebe [War and Love] (2018). The following questions are pointed out: The first question deals with the significance of literature for the private and author’s life, the second one with the thematic and motivic overlaps between his fictional works and non-fictional texts and the third one with Bärfuss’ reading habits of the texts of other writers and their influence on his own literary work. As Bärfuss’ own life is constantly discussed, the emphasis is put on finding out self-presentation strategies of Lukas Bärfuss, in order to consolidate his symbolic capital (Bourdieu) by essays in the literary field.
