Description A Book of Fans is a facsimile edition of an illustrated collection of Japanese waka dating from the 16th century. The poems are accompanied by paintings of classical Japanese fans referring to a common literary genre of books of fans (ogi no soshi) that were widely circulated as educational material among the youth of the pre-modern Edo period (1603-1868). However, the second part of A Book of Fans is offers elaborate scholarly essays dealing with a number of topics regarding the issue at hand from the pen of such as Joshua Mostow, Makoto Yasuhara, and Helena Honcoopová.
