Description By combining two negatives, Slovak social photographer Irena Blühová created a photograph of two girls sitting at a table, which overlaps the translucent “vision” of another female sleeping figure. The whole creates a double dreamlike image with a convenient name Siesta. By combining ordinary human activities such as sleep or food with the visual language of modernist photography, Siesta reflects the intense interest in man and everyday life that Blüh developed in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s, and a more playful attitude to the medium that marks her study at the Bauhaus 1931 to 1932. These and other photographs of her let us look into student life at the legendary modernist school, which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary.
