Description The war, the military service and soldiers in the work of Alois Jirásek represent the thematic and constructional kernel of his artistic creation, its total dominant features, forms the framework of his work, the main mover, a thematic source of the plot, the background of the plot, the source of memories, a reminiscence or a parable. For Jirásek, the most important category is that of the nation and its language, not an independent state he conformed with only after 1918. It is supported with his small prose works and his activity and opinions during the First World War. The realistic, sober conception of war as an everyday activity, a peculiar „work“ and a source of cognition was inspiring and stimulating also in further genesis of the literary reflection of war in world literature. The Slavonic and world context of Jirásek’s prose about war and soldiers demonstrate his – for numerous quite surprising – originality. Jirásek, however, has not written his works neither in English, nor in French, German and Russian.
