Description | When the musician Nicolaus Zangius died in Olomouc in 1617, the fact was noticed only by the local clerks who had to register the modest possessions of this deceased traveller. It would be almost two years before Zangius’ last employer, the Prince Elector of Brandenburg, replaced his late kapellmeister with another musician. It seems that news of Zangius’ death may not have even reached Berlin, though the composer’s collections of secular German part-songs, the most popular part of his limited output, were still being printed there some years afterwards. |
