Description Representatives of museology and historiography perceive professional associations primarily as key players in formation of contemporary museum discourse and at the same time they are interested in the overall context of their cultural influence. A specific example in this respect has been the German museum interest organizations (namely the Association of German-Moravian Local Museums, the Association of Austrian Museums of Decorative Arts, the Union of German Museums for homeland studies in the Czechoslovak Republic and the Association of Moravian Museums), which for almost the first half of the 20th century developed in the turbulently changing social conditions of the Czech lands. The main aim of the paper is to present their intentions and prominent personalities, museum activities and cooperation with state authorities cultural institutions and on the basis of mutual comparison subsequently analyze the overall importance of this element for the history of the museum phenomenon in Central European space.
