| Description | The lecture presented the history of the autonomous monastic republic known in the Orthodox world as the Holy Mountain, situated on the eastern outcrop of the three outcrops of the Halkidiki Peninsula - Athos. The main part of the lecture, supplemented by numerous pictorial material, seen through the eyes of contemporary pilgrim to holy places Athos to present this last outpost of Byzantine civilization in Europe. It introduces her monastic life and the challenges of modernity that threaten this old tradition. |
