| Description | The introduction to the second part of the collective monograph of Bishop Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno (1624-1695) discusses the relationship between the bishop's commissioning and collecting activities. The author draws on Jacob Burckhardt's classical reflections on this topic and draws attention to two different conditions that are reflected in the bishop's desire for collecting: one is the effort to match other collectors with regard to high social prestige, the other he noted the bishop's personal taste. |
