Description | Based on the processing of the archival documents, the text follows the activity of Karel Absolon in the fields of archaeology and speleology on the territory of Slovakia. In the interwar period, Absolon was one of the conspicuous icons of archaeological and speleological research with distinct international renown in Czechoslovakia. Slovak territory was more or less not included into his projects and he influenced the research here in rather a mediated way. After 1945, his interest in Slovak localities increased significantly; in 1946 he conducted archaeological researches on Palaeolithic localities in Moravany nad Váhom, organized a prolongation of Harmanecká (Harmanec) Cave and seriously endeavoured to take a professorial post at the university in Bratislava. The initial enthusiastic acceptance in Slovakia was soon replaced by bilateral disillusionment. |
