Description At the moment of the abolition of the Cistercian monastery in Velehrad in 1784 there was not a small library in the monastery. The manuscripts were also in the library too. From the register that the Olomouc librarian Johann Nepomuk Alois Hanke von Hankenstein prepared for the library in 1789, we know about 121 manuscripts, but most of which were written between the 16th and 18th centuries. The catalog of manuscripts is divided into parchment manuscripts (10 volumes), paper (71 volumes) and 40 manuscripts from Christian Hirschmentzel, Velehrad's historian of the 17th century. Unfortunately, only a few of these manuscripts managed to be identified in the library holdings, so we can only answer some of our questions about the medieval manuscripts from Velehrad based on this catalog.
