Description This article is devoted to consideration of the novel The Governor written by L. N. Andreyev and the depiction of revolutionary events of 1905. Author does not reconstruct historic facts precisely, but conducted analysis of the novel allows to assume, that it was Andreyev’s response to the Bloody Sunday Massacre and the subsequent assassination of the Moscow Governor-General Sergei Alexandrovich. However, the incident described in this novel is not a priorit for the writer, but the inner breaking point, that has an essential dramatic impact on the main character. The Governor, who is a part of the bureaucracy, is going through severe process of realizing his inhuman order to shoot people, that in his opinion, was not a national necessity. Andreyev describes the role of a man in historic events, his ability or inability to show compassion and humanity, guided not by the logic of power, but in accord with universal moral values.
