Description The text is conceived as a theoretical study based on the amendment to Decree No. 27/2016 Coll., On the education of pupils with special educational needs and gifted pupils; in the context of legislative changes and demands on the profession of teaching assistant. The study aims to offer an insight into the issue of genesis and anchoring the profession of teaching assistants in the current Czech education system. There are two basic thematic levels in the text. The first level presents the historical and legislative changes in the teaching profession over the decades. The second part of the study summarizes the requirements for qualifications and vocational training in the current situation in education. The author seeks answers to the questions that accompany the stabilization of this helping profession in practice. The text’s central questions are about the content of the teaching assistant’s work, the diversity of demands on his education, and this position’s job concerning other educational process participants.
