Description | We analyze the role of intimate social ties and community in the process of home-making among the highly skilled migrants in Brno. We focus on the local international Catholic community. It supports migrants’ home-making by fostering friendships, strong engagement and bypassing the language barrier. Belonging, then, is dependent on internationality and sharing of migratory experience and of faith. The settling migrants, however, relax their ties to the community because they need to establish local attachment through local ties of various types including those dependent on overcoming the language barrier. Their ties and identities are more diversified and stable. |
