Description The article is devoted to the analysis of emotional discourse in the play “The Life of a Man” by Leonid Andreev. The main features of the embodiment of such emotional states as laughter, screaming and tears in a literary text are considered. Semantic and functional variants of their implementation on the text were determined for each of these states. The motives of loneliness, death, despair, fear, which play an important role in the understanding of this discourse, are revealed. The article focuses on the ontological essence of laughter, screaming and tears. This allowed us to determine the place of emotional discourse in the philosophical and aesthetic concept of the author.
