Description | The book focuses on the echoes to environmental issues in Czech art in the first two decades of the 21st century. It is a loose continuation of the author's previous publication Green Islands. Czech Art in the Age of Environmentalism 1960-2000 (Brno: Masaryk University, Dexon Art, 2017), the content of which it also complements and develops in some details. The book is divided into eight chapters, each of which analyses a selected theme, such as artists' reactions to the devastated landscapes of mining areas, efforts to adapt our senses to the conditions of the Anthropocene, reflections on current non-anthropocentric philosophies, or the challenges of climate change. The work thus brings to light an area that is currently very topical, not only in art, but of paramount societal importance. |
