Description The cultural and historical significance of chronicles and their potential, the social role - changed fundamentally during the individual historical periods of the 20th century, although in principle, this phenomenon remained authentic and original. From chronicles as a form of documentation - often retrospectively - of simultaneous events and a retrospective view of local or regional history, through chronicles as a tool of political ideology to the postsocialist renaissance of the original meaning of chronicles. The paper will try to outline and define the role, specific aspects and consequences of the existence of chronicles and in the field of so-called "small history", homeland studies and traditional culture, issues of cultural history and strengthening the local identity of the population.
