Description The 5th Czech Academic Conference on Metal focuses on the topic of scenes, identities and gender. The conference, but not exclusively, deals with issues related to how individual metal scenes are formed, what characterizes them and what distinguishes them from other metal scenes, but also how partial metal scenes are interconnected with other musical genres. This is also related to the focus of the conference on issues related to the construction of identities within partial metal scenes, with the theme of religious / spiritual identities and identity-creating religious / spiritual contents in individual scenes being preferred, which can also be illustrated by examples of specific metal groups. Last but not least, the conference also asks questions related to gender in metal, or what role men and women play here (or other gender identities), how masculinity and femininity are constructed here, and why men actually on the one hand, and women on the other, listen to metal and take part in metal culture. The conference also addresses theoretical and methodological issues of metal studies. The conference is traditionally conceived as multidisciplinary and connects participants across disciplines (sociology, anthropology, musicology, political science, study of religions, etc.) with various theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of metal.
