Description | This article analyses the urban theme in Solidao (1939), by Irene Lisboa, one of the most important authors of the first half of the 20th century. Although the problematic of the city belongs to the lines of force in Irene's work, it has not, so far, aroused much academic interest. The present article, therefore, develops the works that have been dedicated to this theme (Morao 1993; Lopes 1994; Magalhaes 1995), focusing on the peripatetic figure and her ability to observe the urban environment, especially the human "landscape", a portrait of the humble people, with whom the narrator feels a strong emotional bond. But despite this harmony, the primordial sensation that animates the text by Irene Lisboa is, precisely, solitude, as the inscription of an insubmissive woman who dared to transgress the conventions of the time. |
