Description The Znojmo rotunda is one of the most important monuments of the Middle Ages in Central Europe. Investigated extensively in the last two centuries, the rotunda has been the object of increasing attention, especially given the dynastic cycle it represents. A glance at its historiography, however, shows how this attention was mainly the result of German and Czechoslovak nationalist tensions and ambitions. What seems to have remained in the shadows is, however, the transcultural dimension of this sacred space, especially concerning the cycle of Christ’s childhood. Moreover, its multisensory, social, and practical dimensions must be examined together with its possible liturgical furnishing to get a new and complex idea of this unique monument in the Central European panorama.
