Description | Currently preserved collections of Mongolian manuscripts show a high percentage of decrees, didactic texts and prophecies composed by or attributed to the Eight Jebtsundamba Khutugtu (the Eight Bogd). Although Mongolist have published many of these texts, new unpublished versions are still appearing. A newly discovered document “boGda gegegen tanu lündüng-iyer toGtaGaju jarlaGsan dürim-yin bičig” expressed the intentions of the Eight Jebtsundamba’s didactic and prophetic texts by the style of a legislative text. Dated 1902, this text was created in the time, when the monastery Yeke Küriy-e has already acquired a form of a cosmopolitan city. This evolvement meant growing influences for monastic life, and therefore the vinaya rules needed to be formulated more precisely. The text analyzed here has not been included in the collective works of the Eight Jebtsundamba Khutugtu. Among the extended texts of the Eight Jebtsundamba Khutugtu there are almost no other examples of monastic rules genre. To my knowledge, a similar text has not yet been published. In this paper, I present this source and compare it with other didactic texts of the Eight Jebtsundamba Khutugtu and documents of monastic rules. |
