Description | Presented essay aims to analyse the novella "A minha vida com Bela" by Teresa Veiga, published in the collection O Último Amante for the first time in 1990 and later in the eponymous collection in 2017, with addition of two more short stories. Veiga introduces readers to a fictional world full of intertextual references, by which we can reconstruct the connection between authors of both Anglo-American and Portuguese literary tradition and the writing of contemporary Portuguese writers. According to Linda Hutcheon ‘interliterary impact and response to it is, as a rule, a prerequisite for a literary production in every literature‘. Grounded on the contemporary theories of intertextuality and theories of possible worlds, this essay reflects the role of the authors Emily Brontë, Emily Dickinson and Florbela Espanca present in the novel. |
