| Description | The opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto, performed in 1731 at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, can be considered a pasticcio par excellence. It is also an interesting example of an opera performed at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna. The study provides information on opera performances at the Kärntnertortheater after 1728 and newly identifies the probable librettist (G. Bonlini) and the origin of some arias. These are two arias by Attilio Ariosti (Lucio Vero, 1727) and one aria by Nicola Porpora (Elisa, 1726). This suggests that the author of the pasticcio - probably Francesco Rinaldi - worked with only a few collections of arias from operas performed in London (the so-called Favourite Songs) in addition to the complete score of Handel's opera Admeto. |
