Description The research aimed to determine the level of work engagement and its relationship with selected psychological aspects (work meaningfulness, burnout syndrome, and overall life satisfaction). The research sample included 662 high school teachers. Engagement was measured by the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) and the Engaged Teachers Scale (ETS). The results confirmed a positive statistically significant relationship between work engagement and work meaningfulness (WAMI) overall life satisfaction (SWLS) and personal accomplishment (MBI-ES) and the negative statistically significant relationship between the two remaining dimensions of the burnout questionnaire (MBI-ES), emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Part of the research was also a comparison of psychometric properties of both questionnaires determining teachers’ engagement. The results suggest that the ETS is a more appropriate tool for measuring teachers’ engagement.
