| Description | The paper examined a phenomena of material transformations in sacral architecture in Ethiopia. The attention centred mainly on churches built in caves and monolithic churches in the surroundings of Lalibela from 12th and 13th centuries. The paper wishes to highlight, through a series of case studies, how transformations of the architectural materials and using specific architectural constructions were connected to place and geological character of the landscape. |
