Description The innermost chamber of the so-called “rupestrian church” of S. Andrea Priu near Bonorva (Sassari) displays an articulated pictorial cycle centered on the story of the Infancy of Jesus. It is proposed a reading of the aniconic motifs in the velaria and in the ceiling – painted with a motif with interwoven orbs – put in connection with the narrative scenes in order to create a close semantic union, read against the backdrop of the cultural relations between Sardinia, Rome and the Carolingian Europe between eighth and ninth centuries.
