Description | Education is demonstrably linked to the development of the economy and living standards of the population of each country. At the same time, the link between quality of education and teacher training is generally accepted. Closely related to this issue is the motivation of students to choose the teaching profession, which also has a significant financial motivation. The article therefore focuses on the analysis of the level of remuneration of teachers at various levels of the education system in selected EU countries based on data available through the Eurydice database in the period from 2012 to 2019. These data are then compared with information available through the Eurostat database on staff remuneration in these countries, namely mean and median net income. Data on the remuneration of individual employees are also expanded to include a view of remuneration according to educational attainment and broken down into earnings of men and women. This approach thus enables a more specific identification of the situation in the remuneration of teachers in selected EU countries, respecting the specifics related to the teaching profession, where there is a requirement for tertiary education of teachers and at the same time a profession in which women predominate. The results of the analysis point to the usual stratification of teacher remuneration in selected EU countries and develops considerations about the appropriate level of teacher remuneration, supporting logical consideration of students' motivation for choosing the teaching profession and affecting the quality of teaching at various levels of the education system. |
