| Description | This paper presented the exceptional golden altar of the church of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan. After presenting the view from afar of the "common" spectator, who saw the altar as an aniconic, "abstract" object, the lecture presented in a second moment an anti-Longobard visual rhetoric, visible only to the exceptional spectators, who could approach this object. |
