Description | A small story by L.N. Andreev (1903), belonging to his early work, is connected with his reflection of ideological disputes in the Russian society of the early 20th century. The relatively abstract arrangement of actors helps the writer to create a model situation and to show an artificial barrier between prisoners, one of whom is isolated, which continues during the prisoners' protests against the system that persecutes them. The behaviour of a group of prisoners and the individual they isolate is examined by the writer from a value point of view. A relatively short story in its finale shows the actual arrangement of moral forces and in part suddenly breaks down the artificial barrier. |
