Description | The Slovak National Gallery, founded in 1948, with its relatively short history, is one of the organizations mentioned in the general discourse as a completely new foundation. Unlike the connection between the National Gallery in Prague and the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art, the Slovak professional background does not mention any connection or continuity between the Slovak National Gallery and other, older art institutions. Paradoxically, this is due to the connection between these two galleries and thanks to the generally accepted assumption that the establishment of the Slovak National Gallery was conditioned by the establishment of the National Gallery in Prague. The fact that the Czech institution was established in its current form only a year later than the Slovak one may, at first glance, call this idea into question.
