Description | The proposed contribution will focus on the shifts in Tolkien’s works reception in time. The primary source of information about the reception of Tolkien's work in the 1990s will be published articles, reviews and interviews. I will collect information about contemporary reader reception through questionnaires. Through the questionnaire survey, the participants familiar with Tolkien’s work will be led to ponder the portrayal of good and evil, freedom, the representation of otherness, racism, feminist and environmental themes in Tolkien’s works. My chief interest is to analyse the differences in reception between readers who read the novels as adults or teens in the 1990s and (mostly younger) readers who only came to reading it in this millennium and the period after Jackson’s adaptations. |
