Description | The method of SfM (Structure for Motion) on principles of image-base modelling is proving to be currently a promising method of three-dimensional documentation. It is a non-invasion passive method using the optical properties of the object, which represents a faster and cheaper (low cost) alternative to three-dimensional documentation using handheld or desktop scanners using structured light or a laser beams. Three-dimensional documentation using the SfM method allows you to create photorealistic three-dimensional models of real objects based on overlapping photographic images, from a point clouds and pixel positions. The aim of the heritage procedure is to show the advantages of the image-base modelling method on the example of documentation of medieval ceramic vessels. The ways of image acquisition, digitization and visualization through specialized software are shown. Thanks to the photorealistic texture and surface color, visualization in the form of a three-dimensional model can bring ceramics as an artifact closer to the public than a two-dimensional documentary drawing or color photograph. Three-dimensional models can be used for both scientific study and educational and exhibition purposes, for example through augmented reality. Last but not least, the methods of three-dimensional documentation can be used for the restoration and reconstruction of ceramic objects in degrading or otherwise damaged conditions. |
